The LBG hosted the 19th annual Dwight Burnham Memorial Brewfest on Sept. 27 at Clinton Lake. The day included barbecue by KB Smokehouse, more than 90 beers on tap and music by Darrell Lea, Lonnie Ray Blues Band, Wrong Kata Trio, Bemsha Swing and Cryin’ Out Loud.
LBG Member James Taylor took home first place for his saison, “Tank 47,” at Grain to Glass’ second annual Belgian Homebrew Competition. The winners were announced at the awards dinner, “Picnique Belgique,” on Sept. 5. There were 20 entries in the category. James’ wife, Tara, was the co-brewer of the beer.
The LBG met on Sept. 11 for its monthly meeting. A swap meet of brewing-related items took place before the meeting. Member Robert Dieterle led the tasting on German wheat beers.
Several LBG members attended the auction of the late Dwight Burnham on Aug. 30 in Lawrence. Burnham, who died in January 2013, was a founding member of the guild and hosted the first two Brewfests in 1996 and 1997 at his house. The guild purchased the majority of Burnham’s brewing library collection.
