Re: Brew Pubs and Restaurants in TX
For a great beer bar check out the Draught House. It's a must visit for me every time I go through Austin. They have a few brews of their own but for the most part have a great selection of hard to find beers on tap. They are just off the UT campus downtown and have a strong local crowd that make fo...

lost abbey patron saints & sinners

The catch is they don't ship to KS, luckily I live in MO. If anyone is interested let me know and you can use my address. C...

Bulliet Whiskey Barrels
Does anyone have a use for some whiskey barrels. They are Bulleit whiskey and have been used once. They are free and I have access to 5-6 barrels. All I ask is for some beer from them in exchange for transporting them to Lawrence.

Powerplant
Hate to be the bearer of bad news. But there will no longer be a strong ale fest in parkville. Powerplant shut their doors for good yesterday. They didn't give any notice at all. The drinking options here in parkville are looking pretty slim.

The good news is that baker's yeast is Saccharomyces cerevisiae. So it is in the same family as most brewer's yeast. Unfortunately, what I did find is that the strains that are cultured for baking are chosen for their ability to produce more CO2 with only a little alcohol being produced. This will h...

From what I have learned the main factor is producing a mash environment that favors alpha or beta-amylase to convert starch molecules to fermentable sugars. If the mash favors beta-amylase you will end up with a more fermentable wort. Whereas a mash that favors alpha-amylase will yield more extract...

Don't want to make you slobber any more. But we're just now bottling a new Wild Dog beer. A german dopplebock. I'm sure Kansas won't get any of this either. The sales team won't tell me why you guys get shafted when you are so close. Oh well. I'll drink a couple for all of you. Oops maybe I've alrea...
