LBG Minutes – July 2014
Business Meeting

Welcome
• New people – Dave Burton, Susan Smith and Adrian Buscher. Welcome!
• Cleanup -- Thank you to the three volunteers!

Announcements
• The Lawrence Brewers Guild meetings are held to discuss new business and to learn about brewing beer and other beverages. If you are attending the meeting for social time, please take your talk outside of the building, so we can't hear you in the sanctuary. Please be considerate during the meetings. You are encouraged to bring your homebrew and a snack for sampling prior to the meetings.

• LBG T-Shirts are on sale for $10/each. LBG stickers are 2 for $3.

• If you have any LBG-related pictures or content appropriate for Facebook, the website or newsletter, please put those items in the LBG Facebook group or e-mail the content to lawrencebrewers@gmail.com.

New Business

• A swap meet of brewing-related equipment took place before the June meeting and went well. Another swap meet will take place before the August 14 meeting in the parking lot of the church beginning at 6:30pm. Bring cash for purchases.

Homebrew clubs can now buy general liability insurance through the AHA at a cost of approximately $3.50/member. Is this something that LBG wants to purchase? Angelo will bring this up for a member vote at the August meeting after the discussion.

Events
• Mugs for Juggs will be on July 12 at the home of Andy and Kim Booth. This is a fundraiser for Komen for the Cure Foundation.

• In celebration of the 25th anniversary of The Free State Brewery downtown and the 5th anniversary of the production brewery in east Lawrence, Free State welcomes the public to attend an open house at the production and bottling facility at 1923 Moodie Road Saturday July 19th from 1:00-4:00. This family friendly event will feature tours of the plant guided by Free State’s brewers and staff. Food, Free State beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase with proceeds going to benefit the Health Care Access Clinic, which provides medical care to the uninsured in Douglas County

• Great Taste of the Midwest (greattaste.org) will be Saturday, Aug. 9.

• The Great Nebraska Beer Fest will be Saturday, Aug. 23 in Papillion, Neb. This year, the guild was invited to have a booth space and serve homebrew. Contact Chuck Ferguson to donate a keg or sign up to volunteer at the booth. Jenalea Myers is organizing the bus trip. The guild voted to pay for the bus (approximately $1460). Members will pay $5/person to ride the bus and non-members will pay $10/person to ride. Watch the forum for details and purchase your tickets if interested in attending.

• LBG Brewfest is Saturday, September 27. Friday, September 26 will be members only night. Tucker will be in charge of the Friday-night-members-only shrimp boil again. Ticket prices for the shrimp boil will be around $20/person (price subject to change). All members are expected to sign up to help out and to bring a side dish on Saturday.

• New events are posted on the LBG Facebook page and website as they are announced.
