In my all-electric brewery, I had trouble with the hop bags getting caught in the heating element. I also filter when I transfer to the kettle to keep the "lumps" out of my wort (while carefully avoiding hot-side aeration), and again when transferring to the fermenter to keep out the trub (aeration here is a wonderful thing). I was going through a lot of spice/hop bags.
I bought a couple of stainless steel hop/spice filter units on eBay. They're also great for dry-hopping. I brought them to the February meeting for show-and-tell. They cost about $10-$12. An item link from eBay would not last long but you easily find them by doing a search on eBay for "homebrew mesh".

That's a lot cheaper than the $40 I spent with Stainlessbrewing.com
