So my birthday was a couple of days ago. We went out to dinner with a couple of friends, pretty low key, but a good time.
I happen to swing by the cigar shop, and catch my wife buying me a new Xicar lighter, and several Illusion 88 cigars. It just happened that I needed to pick up a document from another smoker there.
Anyhow, today, my wife comes to work, and kidnaps me. My boss was in on it, several friends were in on it, etc.
I sold our old farm truck to a friend of ours and planned to drive it to KC before we went to a planned Split Lip Rayfield concert tonight. She shows up, says pack your shit, let's go. I say, "Are we leaving early to drop off the truck, then goto the Costco for some shopping?" She says; "Yeah, sure, let's go!"
So we start the trip over to KC (about 45 minutes), drop off the truck, and she executes the shanghi.
We pull up next to the KC Star (newspaper), and she says "We are going on a personal tour of the newspaper." I'm like; ok, lets go. Keep in mind we just talked about field trips you didn't appreciate as a kid. Going to the newspaper was one of them.
About face, away from newspaper, on to Mercy Seat Tattoo shop. A little background, we gave tattoos to each other as wedding presents, but due to time, cost, etc.; it never happened. Until today.
She researched a great pinup artist in KC, and arranged a date this afternoon as 2pm.
Also; I am a huge Bettie Page fan. And she knows it well. So today, I got my Bettie tattoo. In honor of her life, and now her death as of Thursday.
Here's the original art; I've been facinated with this piece since a friend did a peice with it in the early 90's.

Stu, the Artist at Mercy Seat, did an awesome job recreating it. Although this photo doesn't do it justice.

She also gave me a book, 2600, the Hacker Odyssey.

Can't wait to read that.
Then, we went to Flying Saucer for several beers. Ended up talking for a couple of hours to a new homebrewer, and chilled with him and his wife.
Then off to see Split Lip.
Then finally, my favorite late night Mexican Dive for midnight snackies.
I am chilling with a Fuggle ESB and a Illusion 88 cigar right now.
Damn, I am so glad I married her.
PS: you guys have no idea how hard it is for my wife to keep a secret. She's been planning this for 2 months. She was practically vibrating when she picked me up. I'm proud of her.
