Are you still selling this?
Yes, until July 1st. I just found out recently that I am transferring back to MI... The move is happening very quickly so the packers/movers will be at my house the second week of July. I really enjoyed spending some time with you all and believe you have a great guild ...

Selling Phil Mill($50) / Free clean delabeled bottles
I have a Phil Mill that I selling because I got another one as a present. The Phil Mill works really well and is easy and fast to use with a drill. It is the same mill that Gordon Strong uses.... Crushing your own grain allows you to fine tune your mash and is WAY cheaper in the long run since you ...

Re: Oak wood chips, cubes, beans or spirals?
I aged a strong scotch ale on 2oz of chips for several months and it was way too tannic and oaky. I recommend chips for a short period of time (2weeks or less), or some cubes. The spirals work well from what I heard, but they are more expensive.

Re: Sinamar vs. Carafa for a CDA ( Black IPA )
1/2# of carafa special II will give you enough color for a 5.5g batch. I added a 1/2# to a grain bill that comprised of just 2row and it was plenty. With a IPA I doubt you would even taste the slight roast that it leaves in the beer.

Re: Someone convince me...
You can always use 3/16" beer line for the CO2. Just place the tubing in hot water for a minute and then push it onto your barb...

Welcome to homebrewing!
After you read Charlie's book(you can pass on it...), read How to Brew by John Palmer. It is a much better book, however not quite as "relaxing". Dont bother with a secondary unless you are making a fruit beer or sour beer. It is more work and has the potential to add more ...

Re: Speedy yeast?
Slowest for me would be the Saison WL565. That yeast is really finicky and likes to stop working around 1.020.
Fastest would be WY3787, WL007, WL002. I generally give my ales 10-14 days in the primary before kegging.

Re: filtering tap water
I use the B3 water filter with the charcoal filter. Works great... I added a copper "shepards staff" to the output along with a ball valve so that I can just plop the copper rod on top of the kettle and then control the water flow. You want a slow flow to maximize effectiveness of the carbon filter ...
