keggle not stable on burner

#1 Post by jeffvineyard » Sat Jun 20, 2009 2:52 pm

I am converting a keggle and it won't sit on the b urner very stable. Has anyone ran into this? I have tossed around hammering the bottom into a more suitable shape for stability. Will this interfere with sparging? I am using a burner from a turkey fryer. Is this my problem? Is there a more suitable burner for this application? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Ours was this way. I would not hammer it.

We went to Home Depot. They have replacement grates for BBQ grilles. Get the one that is round with extra thick rods. I think it was $10. I think it may actually be for the briskets and not the meat, but it works well for us when we place this on top of the turkey fryer and the keggle on top of that.

I can weld some steel onto your burner if this would help you.

I have seen this fix on many systems, works like a charm!

Be careful tho as after a period of time the grate can start to fail due to direct flame impingement. I had this happen to me. But its defiantly a perfect, cheap stop gap.
